How to Get Followers on Instagram
How to get followers on Instagram. Would you like more followers? Old tactics like buying fake followers or mass-following all possible users on Instagram are long gone. We’ll break down below why you shouldn’t buy fake followers, and with the second option (mass following), Instagram will simply block you outright.
Why is follower count metric #1?
Even though everyone is chasing the biggest number displayed on their profile indicating their follower count, I have to disappoint you. The number of followers is actually not that important a metric at all. One of the more important metrics is, for example, engagement. The higher the engagement your account produces, the more Instagram will push it in front of other users, which will ultimately also ensure an increased number of the aforementioned followers.
What is engagement? Engagement expresses the attractiveness of your account. It is a measure of user interactions with your content. How will a user behave when they see your post in their feed? Will they like it? Will they comment on it? Will they pause on it for a few extra seconds? Or will they not even notice it and scroll past?
If the engagement on more of your posts is weak, Instagram will evaluate your entire account as uninteresting, which means your posts will be shown last (if at all), or your account will gradually start “dying.” And this is where we get to buying fake followers.
Why not buy fake followers?
Let’s take an example: there is an influencer, let’s call him John, who would like to make some money on Instagram. His follower count is low, not many sponsors are approaching him, and because he doesn’t want to wait for natural follower growth, he chooses a faster and more convenient path – buying fake followers. So John buys a few thousand followers and happily starts waiting for sponsors. In the meantime, he continues to add posts. However, these posts still have low reach and low engagement. Fake bots and even irrelevant purchased users have no interest in these posts. With a higher follower count, however, the demand for engagement is stricter, and since John has several thousand followers and still weak engagement, Instagram automatically places him among uninteresting accounts that publish irrelevant content. Nobody is interested in it and it has a weak response. Instagram, however, tries to entertain its users, provide them with relevant and interesting content, and therefore automatically moves John to “lower ranks.” John is essentially sinking himself this way. Investors won’t approach him, and if they do, it won’t bring them any results and won’t sell them any product.
Not to mention if it’s not an influencer but some shop/service trying to “improve their name and awareness” by buying followers. Let’s say it’s an e-shop, for example. The owner of this e-shop would like to gain visibility on other communication channels and has chosen Instagram. He doesn’t really understand it that well, so he pays a dubious agency that promises him rapid growth of real followers in a short period of time. A pretty tempting offer, right? Well, if the gentleman who owns the e-shop understood social media marketing even a little, he would decline this offer. A real agency would not promise a large increase in followers in the shortest possible time. It would know that building real and especially relevant followers takes a little more effort. It is a long-term process that requires regular account management, performance analysis, target audience analysis, the creation of a content strategy, and all the other important things. Purchased, irrelevant fans who are real but have no interest in the given e-shop will simply sink the Instagram account.
Let’s put it this way. If you have a good audience, meaning diligently built followers, at least 10% of them will bring you some kind of conversion. Moreover, you are creating good content for them, for which you have prepared a quality content strategy. This will also guarantee their response, because they will be interested in this content. And that is exactly what will guarantee a high account engagement, thanks to which Instagram’s algorithm will evaluate your account as interesting and will push you in front of new, similar users (so if you have truly relevant followers, you will gain additional relevant followers completely free and organically).
The relevance of followers and account engagement is therefore what should actually concern you. If your account lacks these 2 things, you can try as hard as you want, but your Instagram will decline in the long run. The same applies to your Instagram ads, which will have more expensive clicks “thanks” to this low engagement.
So how do you help Instagram “the honest way”?
Better interaction with users and therefore better account engagement (and ultimately more followers because of it) can be achieved through both paid and unpaid methods.
Personally, I recommend using both methods in a healthy balance.
Paid methods – include ads on Instagram of various types and formats, or for example sponsoring existing posts
Unpaid methods – include all activities that will help boost your account to the forefront without having to pay for it. It should be noted that this method is inexpensive, but for it to work, you need to dedicate time to your account every day.
Unpaid methods include various activities. Among the most important are certainly hashtags, their analysis, management and evaluation, as well as alt texts, proper timing and scheduling of posts (and also the ability to correctly identify the best times to add posts for a given account), creativity and regular activity on the account. It is also good to build engagement by creating interactive content (for example in the form of interactive stories – with polls, click-throughs, hashtags…), or by sharing and creating links to various other pages and accounts.
We will gradually cover both paid and unpaid methods in detail on our blog, so make sure to follow us 🙂
