5 Steps to Gain Instagram Followers Without Having to Follow Anyone
5 steps to get Instagram followers without having to follow anyoneIf you’re looking for ways to grow your Instagram without having to follow other accounts, these tips will work wonders.
I work with many businesses and individuals who are constantly trying to increase their Instagram follower count, yet without success. They all have one thing in common – they want instant results.
Unfortunately, getting people to follow your Instagram account takes a certain amount of time and effort.
However, you’re in luck, because I’m going to share the best strategies with you, and all you need to do is follow these tips. It’s that simple!

Post Regularly
The key to success on Instagram is posting regularly.
There are two reasons for this:
1. If visitors like what they see on your account, they want to consume your content on a regular basis.
2. Simple math.
Let me explain both.
If you post sporadically – say you post for a few days, then disappear for a month and come back for a week – it only signals to visitors that you’re not serious about your Instagram journey. If I like what I see, I want regular posts to keep me entertained.
Think of a TV series that releases 3 episodes one month and none the next. Would you keep watching and continue following it? Many people wouldn’t.
The math behind regular posting is simple. Let’s say this month you published 10 posts, which resulted in 10,000 views (an average of 1,000 views per post). That means ten thousand people saw your posts. It also means that ten thousand potential followers discovered your content.
Now let’s say you only posted once – you’d reach just one thousand views. That means there were only 1,000 potential followers that month. Does that make sense? The more regularly you post, the more viewers you gain, which also means a greater chance of being followed.
Engage
Imagine you’re at a party, sitting in the corner and keeping to yourself. Would you make friends or acquaintances if you just hid away and didn’t participate? Probably not.
Instagram is similar to a party. There are millions of people in one place, and you need to make yourself visible. The primary reason people notice you is your content, but you should also be very interactive and engaged.
Spending time finding like-minded people who may be following similar accounts to yours is an effective strategy for reaching a new audience. Comment on their posts or like them. Start a dialogue and make sure to get involved. The same applies if someone comments on your post – always respond and try to build a relationship with them through conversation.
Don’t Start Following Others Just So They’ll Follow You Back
It’s tempting, but don’t do it.
If I see someone who has 6,380 followers but is following 7,500 people, it usually means their content isn’t that great and they’re simply trying to boost their follower count by clicking every “follow” button they come across.
It reflects poorly on the account. It also goes against Instagram’s rules and you can be penalized for it.
Building an audience takes time and patience. It is almost always better to have a lower follower count but a higher number of likes on your posts.
Imagine someone who has 10,000 followers, but their posts have barely 100 likes. Something doesn’t add up there, and if you want to monetize your Instagram, the brands you’d like to work with won’t be impressed. Engagement always trumps follower count.
Ensure a Consistent Theme
If you are not a celebrity, you should have some kind of theme on Instagram.
You can’t appeal to everyone. So if your account is about lifestyle, post things that relate to it. If you have a food-focused account, occasional posts about fashion will confuse your audience.
Look at what you have been posting. Can you categorize it into some kind of theme? If so, great! If not, there is a good chance your audience is confused about what you post about, which is why it is harder for you to gain followers.
Try to stick to a maximum of 3 topics that are related to each other. For example, lifestyle is a broad topic and can include fashion, beauty, and food; or fashion, travel, and food; or cooking, parenting, and pets.
Imagine an account where you find posts about someone’s travel experiences, posts about cars, work, a random recipe for a favorite chicken dish, a photo of their cat, a video of their kids playing badminton, etc. It is very cluttered and confusing.
Followers want to follow accounts that reflect their interests. The example above simply has too much going on for one account.
Tell a Story
Instagram is becoming a microblogging platform. Share your story.
A photo or video is great, but what about the caption? Don’t forget about it. Be unique and personal in the way you write your caption.
Instagram is an informal platform, so you should forget about formality. Use the language you use with friends, add a few emojis, and make it personal and unique to you. Don’t try to copy how others write their captions — it won’t work. Instead, look at how they write, how they use words, how they structure sentences, and what tone they use.
Regardless of how large your follower list is, remember to celebrate and be proud of the milestones you reach. It doesn’t matter whether you have just hit 100, 10,000, 100,000, or one million followers — celebrate it and be proud of your achievements. Those who today have several hundred thousand followers were in the same place as you and managed to reach their goals through hard work and patience.
