8 tips on how to get likes for a new Facebook page

How to get likes for your new business Facebook page? On Facebook today, the organic reach for business pages is minimal. Those days when it was relatively easy and there was a pleasant flow of people, likes, etc. on business pages are gone. Even in 2014/15 it was great. FB has since changed its algorithm several times to bring people closer to people.

Breaking through today with a newly created FB page requires more work, more thought, and you also need to budget at least a few thousand for sponsored posts. I personally use FB only for paid campaigns. Organic reach these days is more likely to catch on Instagram.

But the rule of organic reach and gaining followers is the same everywhere. It works that way on YouTube too. The key is posting regularly.

Now to the topic “How to get likes on a new (or even already established) Facebook page”.

Everything you read here I also explain in a series of two videos. The link is at the end of the article.

How to get likes TIP #1

Even if your page is not yet public, act as if you already have some followers. Share photos, videos, write posts. Share, for example, videos or articles where visitors learn something new or get inspired. Don’t be afraid to share some of your secret tips and tricks—for example, if you enjoy fishing and have a page about fishing, tell your followers what works best for catching fish. Sometimes a video that makes people laugh is enough.

When you subsequently make your page public, it will look like an already well-launched project and people will see that you’re serious. You’re really offering them valuable content in return for their likes, which they can already taste on your page. The main reason to make your page public only with some posts is so that visitors know what to expect from you and in what direction your page content will go.

How to get likes effectively? Make videos. This way you’ll stand out from the crowd. Many people don’t make videos yet because it’s not entirely easy to edit and process them. Videos are the best way to get information to people—for example, you post a video where people have fun or learn something interesting. They will share it and it will reach your friends’ friends and spread further. Facebook loves videos, especially those that spark discussion underneath. For example, if you make a camera review, ask what others think about it and have them comment. Your target audience of photographers will definitely respond and want to show off their equipment. Another reason to make videos is that even strangers who follow you will feel like they already know you a little. Which could be useful in the future.

Good tip: Always upload video directly to Facebook, don’t copy the YouTube link. Facebook doesn’t like that (it views YouTube as competition and will reduce the reach of your post).

There’s no need to despair that nobody will see your initial page content. Actually, only the first visitors will. But that’s okay. Content can be recycled. In a year you can share it again with a different description. 😉

TIP #2 – Explore Facebook

How to attract other people to your Facebook page? Explore Facebook and find groups related to your page’s topic. These pages and groups today serve the function that discussion forums served 15 years ago. Various issues are discussed there and you can be the one who gives advice, helps, contributes to the topic or inspires and thus gain new fans for your page. Add posts with valuable content, the operator of that FB page will only appreciate it. Never share banners, advertising images, and promotional flyers in other FB groups and pages. It doesn’t look good and the page admin can easily block you. Of course, check the rules of that group first to see if you can add your posts.

Trick: Find FB groups, both closed and open, that have many members but stricter criteria for posting. In a group where absolutely anyone can post, yours will get lost. So get to know the operators of these stricter-rule groups who will allow you to post on good terms, and you’ll be one of the few who will be seen in these groups. It’s a bit sneaky, but it works…

TIP #3 – Have a logo for your page

Have a logo for your page. It’s somewhat related to the previous point, you’ll stand out from others when, for example, you comment on some post and make an impression, a logo looks professional and trustworthy. Furthermore, you should be careful when selecting your cover photo or video. It should evoke emotions. For example, you make computer software. Even though it’s a relatively cold, technical thing, publish a video about how you helped a company with computer software and how much joy it brought to the people. Another important point is information about you. Always fill in everything on your page (name, website, phone number, etc.)

TIP #4 – Set up Instagram

Set up Instagram. An application that most people are already using and it’s becoming more and more prominent. Connect it with Facebook. On Instagram, the advantage is that if you start following someone (give them a so-called follow), 80% of the time they’ll start following you too. So if you have some spare time, you can follow people of your interest about 100 times. On Instagram you can add valuable content just like on FB, you can insert, for example, a one-minute long video.

There’s also a great feature called “stories”.

TIP #5 – Perfect promo video

Create the best promo video you can right from the start. Tell in it what your mission is, what you want to convey to visitors and what they will learn and discover here. It’s important to do it at the very beginning, while you still have that initial energy and enthusiasm ? You can make it funny too, so you’ll attract more people. You can even hide it for a later time. Once the organically acquired number of likes plateaus (sometimes it happens at 200, sometimes at 500 likes), then share the video as a sponsored post with a few hundred Czech crowns and you’ll gain a new wave of fans and audience again.

TIP #6 – Are you asking for likes?

An obvious thing that isn’t very visible though – you can easily get likes simply by starting to ask for them. Lots of YouTubers do it, don’t be shy and simply invite people to action. At the end of all your videos automatically say: “Do you like it? Give it a like/share with friends.” It works, people respond to a call to action.

TIP #7 – A bit of fun

A tip borrowed from the YouTuber world as well. This one is for more daring people, you can, for example, commit to the fact that when your page/video has 500 likes – “you’ll shoot a follow-up that will be exceptional in this and that… In short, be people, be yourself and make a bit of fun of yourself. Maybe for 500 likes shoot a video with a wig on your head. ?

TIP #8 – Blog and publish

You can gain fans from search engines too. Create the simplest blog page, write on it, publish, blog. When someone searches for advice or perhaps a product related to your topic, they’ll come across your article on the web. Through that they can easily get to your Facebook, where they can get to know you better and become a fan if they like what you do.

Another way to publish on the web is to place your article on a strong, well-known web magazine with your target audience. Publishing articles here can be paid, but that’s fine. Your article, which will advise, inspire and redirect people to your Facebook or websites will be there for years to come…

Final advice on likes

Don’t wait to create a Facebook page until your main website or application is created. You can inform people about your project in advance and collect contacts. When someone then comes to your finished website and sees the connection to Facebook, they’ll find out that you already have at least a few hundred likes and your project won’t look so new and will therefore be more trustworthy.
