5 Steps to Gain Instagram Followers Without Having to Follow Anyone
5 Steps to Gain Instagram Followers Without Having to Follow Anyone If you’re looking for ways to expand your Instagram without having to follow other accounts, these tips can work wonders.
I work with many businesses and individuals who are constantly trying to increase their Instagram followers, but without success. They all have one thing in common – they want instant results.
Unfortunately, getting people to follow your Instagram account requires a certain amount of time and effort.
However, you’re in luck, because I’ll share with you the best strategies and all you need to do is follow these tips. That’s it!

Post Regularly
The key to success on Instagram is regular posting.
There are two reasons:
1. If visitors like what they see on your account, they want to consume your content regularly.
2. Simple math
I’ll explain both.
If you post sporadically, let’s say you post for a couple of days, then disappear for a month and then come back for a week, it just signals to visitors that you’re not serious about your Instagram journey. If I like what I see, I want regular posts to entertain me.
Imagine a TV series that releases 3 episodes one month and none the next. Would you continue watching and keep following? Many people wouldn’t.
The math of your regular posts is simple. Let’s say you posted 10 posts this month, which resulted in 10,000 views (an average of 1,000 views per post). That means 10,000 people saw your posts. It also means that 10,000 potential followers discovered your post.
Now let’s say you only posted once – you only achieved 1,000 views. That means only 1,000 potential followers that month. Does that make sense? The more regularly you post, the more viewers you’ll get, which also means a greater chance of gaining followers.
Engage
You’re at a party, sitting in a corner minding your own business. Would you make friends or acquaintances if you just hid and didn’t participate? Probably not.
Instagram is similar to a party. There are millions of people in one place and you need to be visible. The primary reason people will notice you is your content, but you should also be very interactive and engaged.
Spending time and looking for like-minded people who might follow similar accounts to yours is an effective strategy to reach a new audience. Comment on their posts or like them. Start a dialogue and remember to engage. The same applies if someone comments on your post – always respond and try to develop a relationship with them through dialogue.
Don’t Start Following Others So They’ll Follow You Back
It’s tempting, but don’t do it.
If I see someone who has 6,380 followers but is followed by 7,500 people, it usually means that their content isn’t as good and they’re just trying to increase their follower count by clicking every “follow” button they come across.
It reflects poorly on the account. It’s also against Instagram’s rules and you can be penalized for it.
Building an audience takes time and patience. It’s almost always better to have a lower follower count but higher engagement on your posts.
Imagine someone who has 10,000 followers but their posts get just under 100 likes. Something doesn’t add up, and if you want to monetize your Instagram, brands that you’d want to collaborate with won’t be thrilled. Engagement always trumps follower count.
Ensure a Consistent Theme
If you’re not a celebrity, you should have some theme on Instagram.
You cannot appeal to everyone. So if your account is about lifestyle, post things that relate to it. If you have a food-focused account, occasional fashion posts will confuse your audience.
Look at what you’ve posted. Can you categorize it into some theme? If yes, great! If not, there’s a good chance your audience is confused about what you’re posting about, which makes it harder for you to gain followers.
Try to stick to a maximum of 3 related themes. For example, lifestyle is a broad topic and can include fashion, beauty and food; or fashion, travel and food; or cooking, parenting and pets.
Imagine an account where you find posts about someone’s travel experiences, posts about cars, work, a random recipe for their favorite chicken dish, a photo of their cat, a video of their kids playing badminton, etc. It’s very messy and confusing.
Followers want to follow accounts that reflect their interests. The example above simply has too much for one account.
Tell Your Story
Instagram is becoming a platform for microblogging. Share your story.
A picture or video is great, but what about the caption? Don’t forget about it. Be unique and personal in how you write the caption.
Instagram is an informal platform, so you should forget about formality. Use the language you use with friends, add a few emojis and make it personal and unique to you. Don’t try to copy how others write their captions – it won’t work. Instead, look at how they write, how they use words, how they structure sentences and what tone they use.
No matter how large your follower list is, don’t forget to celebrate and be proud of the milestones you achieve. It doesn’t matter if you just reached 100, 10,000, 100,000 or one million followers, congratulate yourself and be proud of your success. Those who today have several hundred thousand followers were in the same place as you and were able to achieve their goals through hard work and patience.
