11 Ways to Get More Followers on TikTok in 2026
One of the newest social media platforms, TikTok, is focused on creating short and engaging viral video content. However, brands that are just starting out find that it can take forever to gain a healthy number of followers.
To help you expand your profile and get more followers on TikTok, we have prepared 11 practical tips for you.
Let’s begin.
1. Define Your Target Audience
The first step to growing your followers on any social channel is to make sure you know who to target with your content and that you are creating content that will appeal to your target audience.
There are several ways to approach growing your TikTok followers.
First, consider looking at competitors and influencers in your industry. What content are they posting? Take notes on the most popular videos and use them to come up with your own unique ideas.

Next, think about what types of content you post on your other channels. While the content you post on TikTok will likely be quite different, you can still identify some common trends and types of content or ideas that you know will perform well.
Finally, simply take a moment to review your customer persona again and remind yourself of their interests and dislikes. What would they like to see on a platform like TikTok?
Keep in mind that it’s all trial and error, especially with a new and virally driven network like TikTok. You might try a million different types of videos before you find one that truly resonates with your audience. (However, if you make sure you know your target audience well, you can be sure there will be far fewer than a million. Maybe around five or six).
2. Pay Attention to Trends
Trends are a big deal on TikTok. If you’ve browsed the platform before, you’ve probably noticed that several videos have a very similar outline or use the same audio clip. This is because this type of video is trending, which proves its popularity. Try to create a similar video that makes sense for your business and take advantage of the relevant TikTok trends.
Go to the Discover page in the app and see what hashtags and audio clips are trending to get inspiration for what you can use on your own channel.

As you can see in the screenshot above, two trending hashtags that could come in handy for certain businesses are #GymTok (ideal for gyms and fitness brands) and #LearnHow (ideal for brands sharing tutorials and step-by-step videos).
3. Create a TikTok Challenge
One of the things TikTok is famous for are various video challenges, whether it’s dances, challenges, etc. When browsing videos in the app, you’ll likely come across several different challenges. See if any of them would be appropriate for your brand, or consider creating your own TikTok challenge.
That’s exactly what MoonPie did here with the #MoonPieChallenge. They introduced it in their very first TikTok video and followed it up with several more videos with the challenge.
It was one of their most popular videos and also a great introduction to showcasing their brand in the app.
4. Include the Right Hashtags
Just like on Instagram, Twitter, and many other social media platforms, hashtags help users find your content. However, it is important to make sure you are using the right hashtags.

One practice we see with many people is that they simply tag all trending hashtags in their captions. However, don’t do this if these hashtags don’t actually relate to what you’re posting. Otherwise, it just looks like spam.
Instead, start by entering relevant hashtags when creating your title and find out how many views these hashtags are getting. And don’t forget to include the still popular hashtags #fyp or #foryou, which are commonly used in an effort to get onto the For You page. Although the influence of these hashtags on placement has not been confirmed, their widespread use can still expand the reach of your content.

5. Posting Videos on TikTok at the Right Time
It is important to find the best time to post on TikTok to achieve maximum reach for your videos. You can find out this information by going to your business tools or creator tools and checking your analytics tools.
On the followers tab, scroll down and find followers activity. Here you will be able to see what days and times your followers are most active. Try to post your content just before the most popular time of the day to see the best results.

It’s also good to keep track of when you posted content so you can test different times and find out what works best for your brand.
6. Share User-Generated Content
If people on TikTok mention your brand or share videos that are highly relevant to your industry, ask if you can share this video too! (Of course with full credit – you can tag the original creator in the caption).
Here is a great example of user-generated content from the online plant store The Sill. They reshared a video from a new customer who was unboxing one of their plants.
It’s a great way to spread the word about their services, showcase satisfied customers, and give people an idea of what to expect when they order from them.
7. Collaborate with TikTok Influencers
Influencer marketing is a great tactic on Instagram, but it also carries over to TikTok. With the large number of “TikTok-famous” users, collaborating with influencers can be a great way to get the word out about your business.
Here’s an example from TikTok star Kat Stickler. She recreated the iconic Elle Woods Harvard video app as a sponsored post for the Beekman 1802 skincare line.

For Beekman 1802, this is a great way to reach an even larger audience, because everyone who follows Kat will likely see this video and potentially shop with this brand.
Keep in mind that collaborating with TikTok influencers comes with its own costs. Depending on your marketing budget, you may want to look for micro-influencers with highly engaged audiences on TikTok to start your influencer marketing efforts.
8. Cross-Promote Your TikTok Videos
Spread the word that you’re on TikTok. Your followers on other channels may not know that you’ve created a TikTok profile, so it’s good to cross-promote your videos on other channels.
Other platforms, such as Instagram and YouTube, offer their own versions of short video content, giving you ideal space for further use of content created for TikTok videos. On some platforms, such as Twitter and Instagram (channel videos), you can save TikTok channel videos with the TikTok logo and your handle in the corner of the screen and then upload them unchanged, providing your followers with an easy way to find out how to find you on TikTok.
Some platforms have several restrictions that support original content versus copied TikTok videos. Instagram Reels does not allow sharing videos with watermarks, so you will need to upload original short videos or edit them accordingly. YouTube Shorts allows TikTok videos with watermarks, but they cannot be monetized.
9. Use TikTok features to engage your audience
If you want more people to view your TikTok profile, one of the best ways to achieve this is to engage with other videos. Like, comment, and stitch/duet videos from other users.
Stitching allows you to add your own video to the end of another user’s video clip. This is ideal for adding your own commentary or additional content to an existing video.

Dueting places your video next to another user’s video, so you can respond to or complement an existing video with your own content.
Make sure your own stitches or duet videos are highly relevant to your brand. Otherwise, just like and comment on videos created by your target audience to capture their attention.
10. Use CTAs at the end of videos.
Another great way to get more followers on TikTok? Just ask!
Try ending your videos with a CTA to visit your profile, watch similar videos, or follow you. You can do this by adding a simple text sticker to the end of the video, as we see in this example from Visme.

While doing this in every video you post can dampen your existing followers’ mood, no one will mind if an occasional video includes a call to follow your content.
You’ll get the most out of this tactic when you’re creating a series of videos or posting a multi-part video. Just add a text sticker that says something like: “Follow us to see part two!”.
11. Try TikTok ads
Our final tip is simply to try investing part of your marketing budget into advertising to promote TikTok videos. This is an ideal approach when you’re just starting out so you have a baseline to measure what works and what doesn’t for your upcoming videos.
There are several different types of TikTok ads you can try, but for this purpose, branded takeover or feed ads will be your best choice. However, these require your own video content, so start coming up with catchy videos that will capture your target audience’s attention and make them follow you.
